Church, we have allowed ourselves to be thoroughly catechized by modern psychology and secular feminism into believing that anxiety and depression are merely passive illnesses or evolutionary accidents of chemistry rather than what Scripture clearly reveals them to be: sin. When you indulge in chronic worry, you are operating on pride and faithlessness. You are grasping for a false sense of control over circumstances that belong entirely to the Sovereign God, behaving like a passenger trying to steer a commercial airliner from row seventeen. Modern culture excuses wickedness, justifies murder, and medicates away conviction because it denies the living God and worships subjective feelings. But God does not leave you as an exception to His rule. He commands you directly through the Apostle Paul: do not be anxious about anything. Instead of obeying God, we routinely poison our homes by casting our anxieties on everyone around us rather than taking them to the Lord. Men bring their workplace stress home and terrorize their households with passive-aggressive silence, while wives grumble, nag, and vent their emotional turmoil onto their husbands and children. That is not how the redeemed conduct themselves. Scripture commands you to rejoice always in the person of Jesus Christ, to preach God’s objective truth to your fickle feelings, and to take every single care to the throne of grace with heartfelt thanksgiving. The peace of God is not something you protect; it is a helmet that protects you. The solution to your anxiety is not another chemical prescription or therapeutic excuse. The solution is the same as it is for any other rebellion: repent, cast your burdens upon the God who cares for you, and walk in joyful obedience to His Word.
