Sermon Text: 1 Corinthians 14:26-40
You are living in the midst of the “immediacy fallacy”—the destructive belief that because something is current, it is inherently superior to the timeless wisdom of the past. This “that was then, this is now” mentality is the engine of modern moral decay, fueling feminism, progressivism, and every “ism” that seeks to dismantle God’s created order. When you treat the clear, authoritative commands of Scripture as antiquated suggestions that no longer apply to your “lived experience,” you are not being enlightened; you are being unfaithful. The authority of God’s Word does not expire because of air conditioning, Wi-Fi, or changing cultural sensibilities. If you bristle at the Apostle Paul’s instructions regarding order in the church or the roles of men and women, understand that the problem lies entirely with your own indoctrinated heart, not with the text of Holy Scripture. Corporate worship is not a playground for your individualistic preferences or chaotic emotional expressions; it is the arena where the God of peace, not confusion, mandates that all things be done decently and in order. You do not have the liberty to invent your own rules for worship or to ignore the structural requirements of the church because they offend your egalitarian sensibilities. Spiritual gifts are not toys for your self-aggrandizement; they are tools for the edification of the body, exercised under the strict authority of God’s revealed will. True spiritual maturity is not found in being less governed by the Bible, but in being more governed by it. The solution to the chaos in our society and our homes is simple: stop making excuses, stop being a spoiled child, and start obeying God.
